Graphite Sheet Heat Spreading

Graphite vs Aluminum Sheet Heat Spreading Comparison

Test Setup

  • Similar Surface area Graphite sheet (thickness 0.1 mm) and Aluminum Sheet (0.7 mm) were used for comparison as heat spreader to see if there is any benefit of thinner graphite sheet.
  • Same flat plate heaters (30 x 30 mm area) were placed in geometrical centers of both sheets and same power input was given to both. To fill the gaps between sheet and heater, thermal glue was used in both cases.
  • Both the sheets were blackened for viewing temperature profile in Thermal Imager.

Graphite Sheets have higher X-Y planer directions thermal conductivity but lower z-direction thermal conductivity.
